BLOG
I guess the first thing is where do I start? ACYL is a mind train full of twists and turns! I had attended the Camp Gencheff in Charlottetown, PEI in September of 2007. Before this camp, I was another person on a plane to a camp, but as we began to come together, it became more of a family than a camp. Everyone was on the same page, and trusting as well as encouraging. The camp was simply a mind blowing experience and changed my outlook on how the world works and changed me forever. I found myself avoiding new experiences and keeping to my own circle of activities, and now, after a mere four days, I am taking the chances, trying new things, putting myself out there, being a leader. ACYL gave me the tools I needed to have the self-confidence to make a leader of myself through the most creative ways possible. I really communicated with people there, and I found it to be one the most enjoyable, as well as informational places I've been. I gotta say, over four days at this camp, I found that people there I only recently met, became people I thought I knew since childhood and it was great.
Coming home was definitely a new experience. It was almost as though I was coming home for the first time. My outlook was totally changed, and I was taking leadership in other groups like JCR (Junior Canadian Rangers), Helping get activities like the Fac minor gun course for the JCR’s, and taking part in a group effort to create activities for younger rangers during JCR summer camp. This camp opened my eyes to the world around me, and gave me the push I needed to take the first step in life, and show the world what I can accomplish!

Heading to University or College and need a place to live?
Many of the buildings featured in this photo (Central park – Manhattan) are housing co-ops. From the outside, a housing co-op looks like the other homes in the neighbourhood. It can be a new apartment building, a row of townhouses or a charming old triplex. What makes it different is not bricks and mortar, but the way its residents share the responsibilities and control of their homes.
A housing co-operative is more than just a place to live. It is a legal association formed for the purpose of providing homes to its members on a continuing basis. A co-op is different from other housing associations in its ownership structure and its commitment to co-operative principles. – from Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada.
Across Canada, some 2,100 non-profit housing co-ops are home to about a quarter of a million people in 90,000 households. Look for a housing co-op while researching universities or college!
